The California Garden –
Updated Article and Talk this Weekend! (11/17/07)

Thinking of designing a more ecologically sound landscape?  Need help getting started landscaping with native plants?  Find inspiration in this handy resource – “The California Garden”.

In this article we discuss the concept of mimicking natural outdoor spaces in your garden by using naturalistic planting themes. Among the eight themes we list are: Shaded Canyon Hideaway, San Diego Foothill Courtyard and Chaparral Trail.

By no means a definitive list of the many possible design choices you can make for your native garden, this little guide is really meant to jog your memory and give you a starting point of possible themes to consider.  The plant lists are very short and include a few of the ‘signature’ plants you might recall when thinking of chaparral, foothills, canyons and other areas.

This Saturday (11/17/07) we invite you to join us as we continue the Sage Advice Workshop series with co-owner Mike Evans as he discusses “The California Garden”.  Mike will teach about how to use nature herself to help guide the design of your native garden.  Come learn gardening and design tips from one of the experts!  Details about the talk can be found on our posting here.

If you want to take the bold and ecologically responsible step of replacing your lawn with natives, we’d love to help you out.  Take a look at the ‘I Killed my Lawn’ Resource area on our website to get even more information about gardening with California native plants!
