Farther south is the COASTAL SAGE SCRUB which occurs on dry rocky and gravelly slopes in the South Coast Ranges and from there south to Baja California. This area receives an average of from 10-20 inches of rainfall a year and experiences only an occasional frost. From this community comes a number of fine garden plants such as Agave shawii, Berberis nevinii, Eriogonum giganteum, E. fasciculatum, Isomeris arborea, Leoptodactylon californicum, Lemonade Berry (Rhus integrifolia), Galvezia speciosa, Ribes malvaceum var. viridifolium, Lupinus longifolius, Nolina parryi, Penstemon antirrhinoides, Prunus ilicifolia, P. lyonii, Ribes speciosum, Romneya coulteri and Salvia leucophylla.
