Richard Louv, author of Last Child in the Woods
Lecture and Book Signing Hosted by "Inside the Outdoors" October 12, 2007, 7:00 PM, Chapman University

At Tree of Life Nursery, we continue to observe the growing chasm between humans and the natural world in the increasingly developed, intensely manicured and over-crowded urban areas of southern California. We are passionate about the concept of bringing nature close to home by landscaping with native plants therefore facilitating the connection to authentic California. We hope you are too!

The disconnect between 'human' and 'natural' environments is a phenomena that has been observed by many, including best-selling author Richard Louv. In his most recent book Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature Deficit Disorder, Louv reveals the importance of
"healing the broken bond between our young and nature". Be part of an evening dialogue that not only exposes an alarming trend, but also explores solutions.

This special engagement is being hosted by "Inside the Outdoors" - http://ito.ocde.us/Programs/Richard_Louv_Lecture.htm

Tickets are $10 and we are pleased to offer them for sale on location here at Tree of Life Nursery.

Tickets are also available at some REI locations and online through Acorn Naturalists.

The Sage Advice Workshop Series 2007

Due to an increasing demand for garden advice and information regarding the use of California native plants in the landscape, we are pleased to offer some helpful topical seminars once a month throughout the planting season.

October 20, 2007 - 11:00 AM
In cooperation with Santa Margarita Water District (Landscape Class):
Sage Advice Workshop: Why California natives are BEST for water conservation!

Native plants are uniquely suited to Southern California's arid conditions making them the ideal choice in water-efficient landscapes. Unlike drought-tolerant plants from other regions, California natives offer much more than simple water-savings. They invite native songbirds, butterflies, hummingbirds and beneficial insects to reside in your garden, creating an authentic environment, educational for both adults and children. Come learn how to bring nature home to create an authentic sense of place, and to inspire, not just to conserve!

November 17, 2007 - 11:00 AM
Sage Advice Workshop: The California Garden

California is a big place with many diverse plant communities and eco-systems; therefore the "California Garden" should mimic outdoor experience. Engage the senses! Fill your garden with line, color, shape, touch and fragrance... all of which will recall the beauty of nature. Learn how to use, as a model, our greatest resource: Nature herself. You can design not just a home garden, but also, an oasis of authenticity, wherever you may be.

December 1, 2007 - 11 AM

More workshops to come in 2008!
